Blogging from Australia, Jasmin Howell of Friend in Fashion is passionate about fashion and photography. Here, she shares her fashion and beauty tips and tells us about her love of travel.
How did you get the idea to start your own fashion blog?
I really just started my blog on a whim. I didn’t really know what a blog was when I started.
I was just looking for a creative outlet – a way of capturing my love of fashion and photography and thought a blog would be a good platform.
How did you choose the name of your blog?
My friends always used to come to me for fashion advice, to the point where I was quite literally their Friend in Fashion. The name just kind of stuck.
Where do you hope your career will lead?
Ultimately, I would love to build a career around my love of fashion, travel and food.
My dream job would be to create a travel series, which explore the fashion, food and culture of locations around the world.

Tennis is my sport of choice – I used to play competitively
How much time do you spend on an average post?
Probably a bit too much. When you think about what goes into a post – shopping, styling, photography and writing, but blogging is a great hobby, which I love.

What was the best fashion event you have ever attended?
One of my favourite fashion experiences was actually in Berlin. I was invited to host a segment on DW Television and was personally escorted through a fabulous photographic exhibition by Peter Lindbergh.
How would you describe Australian style?
I think there is something quite unique to Australian style, that varies between states. It is heavily influenced by the Australian lifestyle and climate, but also takes guidance from international trends. I think there is an element of fun to Australian style.
In your opinion, what will be the top trend for summer 2011?
As always, I love lots of white is summer, so I hope it is big a trend for 2011. I predict splashes of neon colour, oranges and pinks, plus pretty floral prints.
What is your favourite piece in your wardrobe?
At the moment, I’m loving my Evil Twin faux fur hooded coat – cuddly and warm.
What do you pack to go on vacation?
To be honest, I like to pack as little as possible with me, so that I have lots of space for new shopping purchases. Having said that, I generally tend to pack too many shoes, and when vacationing in summer, my favourite hat, and sundresses.
Do you have a favorite brand?
When it comes to everyday brands, I live in MinkPink, Somedays Lovin and Staple.
When it comes to designer brands, I absolutely adore Miu Miu, Chloe and Camilla and Marc.
Who is your favourite emerging designer?
I’m lucky enough to work with some great emerging talent, Arizona based Monique Martinez is an absolute stand out for me. She does some amazing work with tulle that is simply beautiful.
Perth based Martini + Coz also create some lovely vintage inspired jewelry and handbags.
Do you prefer online or “real-life†shopping?
I like a combination of both. Online shopping is very convenient, and I love the excitement you get, when a new package arrives to your door-step, but I also love to go in-store and try styles for fit and fabric. Generally, once I’m familiar with a brand, I will buy online.

What importance do social networks have for you?
I think social networks are a great way of connecting with my readers, and a more general international fashion-loving audience. Social networking really has broken down geographical boarders, which is fabulous.
What is your top fashion tip?
Confidence is a vital component of style.
What beauty product can´t you live without?
Yves Saint Laurent Touche eclat + Lancome Hypnose mascara
What is your favourite city?
Being a travel bug, I have a lots of favourite cities – all for different reasons.
I love living in Australia – Melbourne truly is a great city.
My most favourite international locations include New York, Tokyo and Nice.
What fashion item do you hope to own one day?
On my wish list has to be a Louis Vuitton luggage set.

How did you get the idea to start your own fashion blog?
I started my blog because I felt so inspired by other bloggers and I was looking for a way to communicate with fashion lovers from all over the world, since there aren’t that many people where I live who are as fashion obsessed as I am.
What does the name of the blog signify?
When I was thinking about a name for my blog I immediately thought of my favorite saying “Birds of a feather flock together.†It just fitted perfectly to the reason why I started my blog in the first place, because it means that people with the same interests or character traits stick together and, as I mentioned before, I was looking for people who share my interest in fashion.
Who do you hope to reach with your blog? / What is your objective?
I didn’t and still don’t have a specific goal I want to achieve, my blog has taught me so much about fashion and it has brought me opportunities of which I wouldn’t have ever believed it would. I am very thankful for that and I hope that my gained knowledge will help me get a fashion-related job in the future!
Who inspired your fashion sense?
I actually can’t really tell, maybe it’s in my genes, since two of my cousins are just as fashion obsessed as I am and studied fashion design
I was always interested in fashion, when I was little one of my favorite things to do was designing clothes for my self made paper dolls and with time my interest grew and grew and it’s still growing.
Do you draw inspiration from other blogs/ bloggers?
Of course I do, there are so many amazing bloggers out there who inspire me everyday.
What does “style†mean to you?
Style is something personal, which comes from your own heart. For me someone I’d describe as having style is someone who dresses the way they like it and in way which suits them and their personality.
Describe your style
Another question I can’t really answer, I don’t really know how to describe my own style. I just love mixing everything I like and creating outfits in which I feel comfortable.
Do you have a favorite brand?
I love Burberry Prorsum, Miu Miu, Proenza Schouler and Felder Felder.
Do you prefer online or “real-life†shopping?
Real life!
Which other blogs do you read on a regular basis?
I read about 300 blogs regularly! My favorite at the moment is definitely “The Man Repellerâ€
What importance do social networks have for you?
For me they are the future which starts now.
What are your “must haves†of the moment?
I’m not a fan of the term “must have†since I don’t think there’s anything one MUST own
What are the advantages and disadvantages of blogging?
I love blogging! I’ve got to know so many amazing people of which some of them have become very close friends of mine, as I said before I got so many great opportunities because of my blog and it’s just so much fun!
